This chess set is an outstanding choice for anyone looking to learn the game or introduce it to beginners. The learning cards are incredibly helpful, guiding players through the rules and strategies step-by-step, making it easy for kids and adults alike to grasp the fundamentals of chess. The three levels of play—basic moves, simple strategy, and mighty moves—allow for gradual learning, which is perfect for fostering confidence in new players.
The double-sided gameboard simplifies setup and offers a clear layout for piece placement, which is especially beneficial for beginners. The detachable bases on the pieces are a clever feature, showing how each piece moves, and they can be removed once players are comfortable. This makes the transition to traditional chess seamless.
The quality of the set is commendable; the pieces are visually appealing and the overall design enhances the experience of learning and playing. While the board does have creases typical of board games, this doesn’t detract from the enjoyment.
Overall, this chess set not only provides a great way to bond with family but also encourages strategic thinking and patience. It has quickly become a favorite pastime in our home. Highly recommended for anyone looking to dive into the world of chess!

I love this set so much. My kids love the cards, the pieces look great, and the box is well designed so it’s a fun experience to open it and set it up.

Here are a few things to know though (none of which bothered me at all):

    – The board is made out of regular board game material and it folds into a square with creases just like any board game.

    – The bases of the pieces can be tight and difficult to take off.

    – The pieces seem a bit short and light without the bases, so I’m leaving them on even though I know how the pieces move.

    – The cards go beyond the basic moves and give some puzzles and tips. Nothing that can’t be found online but it’s kind of cool to read the little facts and tips.

    – In my opinion, the side with where the pieces go is distracting and not required. My 5 year old learned quickly the starting position of the pieces. I think it would be better to have a card with a picture of the start position and have the second side a different colour scheme instead.

I purchased this game hoping my kids would have fun learning it, and it turned out to be a hit at Thanksgiving. Dad showed them how to play, and the instructions were simple enough for my 11 and 9-year-olds to read and grasp. My 5-year-old also learned when dad wasn’t around. They love that each piece has the name and moves printed on it. The quality is decent, and it offers excellent value for the price. Most importantly, it gives my kids a way to challenge each other and learn a game together, with their goal being to beat Dad.

I absolutely adore this set! My kids enjoy the cards, the pieces look fantastic, and the box is beautifully designed, making it a delightful experience to open and set up. Here are a few points to consider (none of which bothered me at all):

    • The board is made from standard board game material and folds into a square with creases, just like any other board game.
    • The bases of the pieces can be a bit tight and hard to remove.
    • The pieces feel somewhat short and light without the bases, so I’m leaving them on even though I’m familiar with how the pieces move.
    • The cards offer more than just basic moves; they include puzzles and tips. While all this information can be found online, it’s nice to read the little facts and suggestions.
    • Personally, I find the side that shows where the pieces go to be distracting and unnecessary. My 5-year-old quickly grasped the starting position of the pieces. I think it would be more effective to have a card depicting the starting position and a different color scheme on the second side.

This chess set is ideal for beginners. The board indicates the placement of each piece, and both the pieces and cards demonstrate their movements. Once you’ve learned, you can flip the board over and detach the movement indicators from the pieces, transforming it into a standard chess set. We liked it so much that we bought one for our cousins, and they are now enjoying it as well. I highly recommend it for anyone learning chess.

  7. JR

Perfect chess set for beginners. Board shows where to put each piece and pieces and cards show how each piece moves. Once you learn you can flip over to other side of board and remove the part of the pieces that show you how to move so it becomes a normal chess set. Liked it so much we bought for cousins too who are now enjoying it. Highly recommend for learning chess.
