Review of Spin Master Games Marvel Guardians of The Galaxy: The Groot Escape
The Groot Escape is a fun and engaging charades-style card game that brings the iconic character Groot from the Guardians of the Galaxy to life in a unique way. It’s a game that can be both entertaining and challenging, especially for fans of the franchise. However, it may not resonate with everyone.
Pros:
- Great for family game nights with a player range of 3-7 people.
- Simple rules that make it easy to jump into the game.
- The humor of saying “I am Groot” while trying to convey messages adds a fun twist.
- Short playtime of about 20 minutes keeps the energy up and allows for multiple rounds.
- Encourages laughter and creativity in guessing and describing items.
Cons:
- May appeal more to children than adults, leading to potential boredom for older players.
- The items on the cards may not always be familiar, making it challenging for some players.
- Gameplay can become repetitive after a few rounds without house rules or variations.
- Requires at least three players, which may limit spontaneous play opportunities.
Overall, The Groot Escape is a clever and amusing game that can create memorable moments, especially among Guardians of the Galaxy fans. While it might not be a top favorite for every adult, it has the potential to be a hit with families and younger players looking for a light-hearted game to enjoy together.

I purchased this game as a small gift because we frequently have game nights and are big fans of Groot! Unfortunately, we didn’t find it very enjoyable. The rules are straightforward, but I would recommend it more for kids than adults. Unless you’re a huge fan of the movies, the game lacks depth. After our first playthrough, we started inventing our own rules to make it more interesting and challenging, but that defeats the purpose. We’d prefer to play other games. I still gave it 2 stars since it was quite inexpensive and, well, it features Groot.

We had a fantastic experience playing this game. My 13-year-old mentioned that it appeared more complex than it actually is. Essentially, you have cards featuring various items, and the player acting as Groot tries to get the other players to guess a specific item. When they guess correctly, both the guessers and Groot earn “money.” There’s an interesting twist involving “alarms,” but it’s quite simple to understand once you grasp the rules. We’ve played this game twice already, and our only feedback is that we wish it lasted longer. This can easily be adjusted with some “house rules.” We also recommend having one person act as the “banker” to distribute the reward money. After discussing it as a family, we believe that kids aged 7 and up would enjoy this game. It was enjoyable, and the kids have already asked to play again.

For $10.00, this game is definitely worth it. Make sure to read the instructions carefully. When I first received the game, I was quite confused because I tend to jump right into games and thought I knew how to play charades. In this game, you can only say “I am Groot” while trying to describe something (though you can use gestures, sound effects, etc.). The images are not everyday items, which is why I think it’s better suited for older kids. However, you could easily modify it with pictures of more common items, since saying “I am Groot” with various sound effects and voices is guaranteed to keep everyone laughing for a long time. It also has a cooperative element because if players choose “high security items,” you must flip coins that could lead to a loss for everyone. We decided not to use those in one game to avoid losing quickly! Overall, if you’re a fan of Guardians of the Galaxy, you’re going to have a great time with this game!
