I absolutely adore this 100 Years of Disney celebration set! I purchased it for my 4-year-old nephew, who is a huge Mickey Mouse fan and, like the rest of our family, loves Legos. Every detail of the set is thoughtfully designed, especially for younger users just starting with Lego.
The build resembles a mini Disneyland parade, featuring a train driven by Mickey and three themed carriages that represent a variety of Disney films, showcasing a nice balance of male and female characters. The minifigures are impressively detailed, with printed elements on the torsos (and legs for some). I particularly love the heads on the animal characters, which remind me of the Fabuland Lego I had as a child.
The set comes in five bags, with the first four numbered to create different parts of the train along with their accompanying characters. The fifth bag includes Minnie Mouse, a little Disney booth, and celebratory cakes.
I appreciate that the build begins with Mickey’s engine. Once that part is complete, it becomes a playable toy. This structure of smaller builds offers easy break points for younger or less experienced builders like my nephew, and after completing the engine, the order of the remaining mini sets doesn’t matter.
My nephew found that the balloons could also serve as lollipops for his toy kitchen, which does raise a concern about younger children wanting to put them in their mouths, requiring a bit of extra supervision.
Though aimed at younger users, this colorful Disney-themed classic has widespread appeal. As always, Lego delivers high quality, complete with clear, full-color printed instruction booklets. There’s also the option to use the walkthrough instructions on the Lego app, which includes mini animations, sounds, and 3D movement of components, but at the youngest end of Lego’s recommended age range, my nephew was quite satisfied with the paper instructions.
