How to Use the Imagimake Window Art Princess Kit — Beginner’s Guide
What’s in the Box
- 12 interchangeable pieces for Princesses, Mermaids & Fairies
- 4 mini suncatchers (Unicorn, Butterfly, Rainbow cloud & Castle)
- 11 peelable glass paint tubes (including 4 glitter tubes, 5 ml each)
- 1 glass liner (black outline tube)
- 7 suction cups
- 1 design book
- 1 acetate sheet
Preparation
- Find a clean, flat working area with good light and protection for the surface (newspaper or a craft mat).
- Wash hands and wipe the acetate sheet lightly if dusty. Make sure the window area you will use is clean and dry.
- Open the kit and remove the safety caps from each paint tube just before use. Keep tubes upright when not in use.
- Adult supervision is recommended for children under 8 and when handling small parts like suction cups.
Basic Step-by-Step Painting (Using the Acetate & Design Book)
- Choose a design from the design book.
- Place the acetate sheet over the chosen design and hold or tape the acetate gently in place.
- Use the glass liner (black outline) to trace the outline of the design first. Squeeze gently and keep a steady hand. Let the outline dry slightly (a few minutes) so it becomes raised.
- Fill the areas with peelable glass paint tubes. Squeeze slowly and fill each section without pressing too hard to avoid blobs.
- Use glitter paints where you want sparkle — dot lightly or fill small areas for best results.
- Allow the painted acetate to dry fully. Typical surface-dry time is 1–3 hours depending on paint thickness; allow up to 24 hours for best peelability in cool/damp conditions.
- Once fully dry and firm to the touch, carefully peel the painted design off the acetate like a sticker.
- Attach the peeled design to a clean, dry window using a suction cup (if provided) or stick directly to the glass. Smooth gently to remove air bubbles.
Assembling & Interchanging the Characters (Princesses, Mermaids, Fairies)
- The kit parts (hair, face, body etc.) are designed to fit together easily. Align the tabs or slots and press gently until they click into place.
- To create different characters, mix and match hair, face, and body pieces. The kit supports up to 64 unique combinations — try different color schemes for more variety.
- If you paint parts separately, ensure each painted piece is completely dry before assembly to avoid smudging.
Hanging Mini Suncatchers on Windows
- Choose a clean, dry window that receives good light.
- Press the suction cup firmly onto the glass to remove air pockets.
- Hang the suncatcher or use the suction cup hook/slot provided. If a sticker-style suncatcher is used, press it directly onto the glass and smooth from the center outward.
- For best visual effect, place suncatchers where sunlight will pass through them (but avoid prolonged direct hot sun on very thin materials).
Drying & Curing Times
- Surface dry: usually 1–3 hours (depends on paint thickness and room conditions).
- Fully cured/peel-ready: allow up to 24 hours for cool or humid environments.
- Thicker paint layers require longer drying. Be patient — premature peeling can deform the design.
Cleaning, Storage & Care
- Close paint tube caps tightly after each use and store upright in a cool, dry place.
- Clean the glass liner tip with a damp cloth before the paint dries to avoid clogging. If it clogs, gently warm the tip under warm (not hot) water and squeeze to clear.
- Wipe windows gently with a soft, damp cloth when removing suncatchers. Avoid sharp tools that could scratch the glass or artwork.
- Store unused pieces and completed suncatchers flat in a box to avoid bending or warping.
Safety Tips
- This kit uses non-toxic paints, but it is not edible. Do not ingest paints or pieces.
- Adult supervision recommended for children under 8 and whenever small parts are used.
- Avoid contact with eyes; if paint gets into eyes, rinse well with water and seek medical advice if irritation persists.
- Keep the kit away from very young children who might put pieces in their mouths.
Troubleshooting & Tips
- Bubbles in paint: squeeze more slowly and avoid overfilling areas; use a toothpick to pop small bubbles before drying.
- Paint too thin or runny: allow thicker layers or use less solvent-damp areas. Let each layer dry before adding more.
- Design won’t peel cleanly: ensure the paint is fully cured (up to 24 hours). If edges lift, gently loosen with a fingernail and peel slowly.
- Uneven outlines: practice with the glass liner on spare acetate. Keep a steady hand and squeeze gently for even lines.
Fun Ideas for Beginners
- Start with simple shapes (stars, hearts) to practice the liner and filling technique.
- Make matching sets — a princess and a little unicorn — and hang them together on a window for a themed display.
- Use different light positions (morning vs. afternoon sun) to see how colors change with light.
- Gift finished suncatchers as handmade window stickers for friends or family.
